self portraits

Like other artists using photography as main media I have started taking pictures of myself at first. While I have always seen myself as a performer in many ways at the beginning I started to take self-portraits purely because it was the easiest thing to do. With time a realised that self portraiture was one of the strongest part of my work and I have started more consciously to to think of images with me in it rather than using myself because there was no one around or at least no one willing to look, ugly, fat, older or any of those things that society seems to be really obsessed about it. I tend to feel comfortable about my ugliness and I actually enjoy on a personal level looking at the pictures where I look worse.  These images are not always about ME though but I simply use myself to tell a story that I think it deserves to be told. The most important idea throughout my work is the Buddhist principle that I we are all ONE and using myself in my images is the best way I can think of to try to understand how other people are and how similar we are in a way even though superficially we appear to be different. My work is based on that surface but the intent is to show that, as I said, we are all ONE.
